Get my half-steer end of October. Up to $6.25/lb hanging weight, about $2k-2400 depending how big the steer dresses out. I net about 200 lbs to my freezer.
Have to wonder how the govt will cook the inflation numbers now, by substituting something else for ground beef, the same way they subbed ground beef for steak, once upon a time. Maybe Alpo will be the new baseline product for the category. Whatever the case, they will try to find some way to tweak the reported figures going forward.
My friends have planned out protecting their livestock.
During the 73-75 stagflation crash I had two incidents of finding sheep remains from Mexicans harvesting one or two of my sheep in the barnyard while we were at church.
I can say Mexicans because the second time I was at home while the family went to church. They fled with a shattered windshield but the sheep in question was still a loss.
This economic crash they might be shooting back. Be aware.
