“A survey conducted by the federation in early April “shows 70% of respondents say fertilizer is so expensive that they will not be able to buy all the fertilizer they need.” More than 5,700 farmers, both Farm Bureau members and non-members, from every state and Puerto Rico took part in the survey.
The analysis reveals that almost 8 in 10 farmers in the southern U.S. say they can’t afford all needed supplies this year, followed by the Northeast and West at 69% and 66%, respectively, compared to 48% of the farmers in the Midwest.”
Something is not making sense to me. If American oil wells and refineries are intact (at the moment) what is preventing the manufacture of chemical fertilizers right here? Why can’t American farmers purchase fertilizer made in the USA, unless that manufacturing has fled overseas like everything else?
FWIW, with all the cattle, chicken, and hog production in the USA, there should be some Clipper Ship Strategy (look it up) to utilize this valuable animal waste to fertilize crops. My dad never used chemical fertilizers on our Valencia Orange trees. He made deals with chicken ranchers and others for steer and chicken manure. We always had bumper crops. Kellogg’s Nitro Humus (dried and treated sewage) was used by municipalities all over SoCal on the lawns in public parks and I grew oodles of tomatoes with it. You can also use DEF BLUE, which is just urea and purified water.
If farmers in other parts of the world have problems, they need to look for other sources. I am sure Mr. Putin would be happy to do business with them. I am not, under any circumstances, sticking up for the Golden Golem or his (((handlers))). He should be, and I hope he is, impeached when the Socialist-Abortion Party takes control after the midterms. All I am saying is, instead of standing around wringing their hands, American agricultural interests need to use whatever solutions are at their immediate disposal to start crops growing.
