The Thermal Game

A space blanket does hide your body heat from a thermal camera. That’s the problem: the camera finds the blanket instead.

The true part: the foil reflects the heat your body radiates back at you. That’s how it keeps you warm, and why a thermal camera can’t see through it.

The part nobody mentions: a thermal camera reads what a surface gives off plus what it reflects. Shiny metal gives off almost nothing. A metal ring at skin temperature can show up far colder than the skin around it.

  1. If I was an entrepreneur I’d be finding a factory somewhere to combine the two.. and put a camo cloth layer over a foil inner layer.

    1. Get a golfing umbrella and a camouflage poncho liner block your heat from Observer.

Reflective blanket makes a mirror of the sky thermal wise.

Must have NO Contact with the thermal barrier or that’s a hot spot.

We tried it decades ago when they were starting to use IR and it worked but looked stupid.

But it was fun to sneak up on IR sensor testers with it.

When will someone figure out how to set up a drone propeller sound detector? Was used in WW2 to listen for German Bombers.

  2. Am I missing something or would a gillie suit worn on top of the thermal blanket work?

  3. Max Velocity provided a video that purported to show thermal-blocking camouflage several years ago and I remember a price of around $300 each IIRC. I checked his site just now and it shows no products for sale, only training courses. I’m putting up this comment only to ask other readers if they have any fresh information about this in case a commenter has a friend who would be interested.

    1. The “Dirty Civilian” channel on the TUBE has done a vid or two on the subject.

These guys put out good content.
