  1. Ha! I just had to pull over this morning, they were bringing a wide-load down the highway: a GE Vernova gas turbine unit going in at the old fossil plant. TVA is replacing coal with Nat Gas.

  2. That Musk is doing this is probably for his own benefit, as he will undoubtedly be employing these turbines to build giant nat gas gensets to power his data centers. Whether these parts find their way into generating equipment for public utility use remains to be seen.

    He already has at least one data center running on these gen sets. While the exact location now escapes me, he installed these gas turbine generators to run a data center where adequate utility power wasn’t available, even though he didn’t receive approval to do so under local codes. It is now creating a terrible situation for residential properties nearby, because they’re subject to the excessive noise level 24/7.

    It may be technically impressive to bring production in house (if he can do so successfully) but I’ll be interested to see if he can actually pull it off. Elon has a history of letting his mouth get ahead of his brain.
