They won’t wake up until it’s too late to do anything except stampede and make the situation worse…Hell we have a hard enough time with our side and all the propaganda that’s still holding them back from actually doing anything effective and no sorry prepping is just saving your own skin it’s not changing anything for our future…So what you have a can of beans when they get to you or you are starving you are still going to the gulag or to the cemetery no matter how many lies you tell yourself…
Aren’t you just a ray of sunshine. I’m tribing up with like minded neighbors and people in my community. The NPC’s will be rioting at the nearly empty grocery store while we are setting up our defenses.

If they were going to wake up, then they wouldn’t be npc’s.
Noah didn’t need consensus nor a mass awakening to finish the ark and climb up on it.

^ This. The harsh reality is that most humans are (and always have been) expendable, and are not made of the right stuff to survive massive cataclysms. They get killed wholesale in wars, famines, epidemics, and myriad natural disasters. That we have spent a long time now mostly free of such world altering events that impose a huge death toll does not mean it won’t or cannot happen again. When it does happen, the loss of life will be breathtaking, but that appears to be inherent in the way things play out. The expression “you can’t save ’em all” definitely applies here. And the longer I live, and the more I see, the fewer I’d even want to see saved.
Society sucks now because it has been overrun by NPC’s who aren’t fit to maintain a functional civilization, and the savages the NPC’s have foolishly allowed to overrun the few places where a decent quality of life had been successful established. The penality for this idiocy will, ultimately, be a huge culling of the unfit. And it will most likely be the direct result of the collapse of decent society, as all of the things that made it decent are lost to incompetence, ineptitude, and sabotage.
The loss of modern sanitation, and utilities like reliable electrical and natural gas, will force a contraction (die off) in population, as there is no way to carry the current population numbers without the marvels of modern first world technology that laid the foundation for such massive population growth to begin with. The loss of industrial scale farming to provide food (even if of dubious quality) for such large populations will be another factor.
