It does not matter if you own a firearm but have no ammunition. At that point, a rifle is just a club. The same analogy applies to driving a vehicle. If you cannot buy gas (motor oil, filters, replacement parts), you have a place to sleep and be out of the weather.
The real analogy: if you do not have the rule of law, you have no Republic. And both of these conditions describe the United States.

I have 5 oil changes of the synthetic oil I use. Also oil, air, cabin air filters, wiper blades, and fan belt. Going to get the CVT oil changed and brake system flushed next week. Good for another 30,000 miles or 5 years at the rate I drive it. Better prepared a year in advance than late by a month.
