It has been a while since I have written about Russia and the war in Ukraine, but Vladimir Putin’s speech on Tuesday (23 June) to graduates of Russia’s higher military academies and security institutions (military cadets/officers) at the Kremlin merits attention because it carries an indirect but profound warning to the West.

I am focusing on the Western threat section of the speech because it signals that Russia, in reaction to Western actions, is prepared for a wider war. The speech followed a consistent four-part structure: the West manufactures the threat; it then accuses Russia of creating it; this is a historically repeated pattern going back to 1941; and Russia’s response is both military preparedness and a principled alternative vision of world order. What made this speech most salient was the explicit statement that NATO has moved from proxy support to open preparation for direct war — an escalatory claim calibrated to remind the graduates, and the broader audience, of the stakes of their service.

Putin’s central argument was structural rather than event-specific. He described the West’s action plan as very simple: first they create threats for Russia, forcing it to take action necessary for defending and protecting itself, and then they immediately accuse Russia of all mortal sins to justify their continued aggressive policy and aggressive actions against Russia. This framing — Russia as perpetual reactor, never initiator — is the foundational claim on which all other arguments in the speech rest.

Putin minced no words… He stated that Russia is ready to promptly and appropriately respond to any external and internal threats, and that in accordance with the State Armament Programme, Russia is focused on modernizing its nuclear triad and the Army, and strengthening the combat capability of the Aerospace Forces and the Navy. The explicit mention of the nuclear triad in direct proximity to the discussion of Western preparation for war against Russia was a pointed message to Donald Trump and the rest of NATO.

It is interesting for the reason that it is plausible: Trump has clearly been frustrated by his inability to settle any of the conflicts he had promised easily zip up. And recently, on the heels of the Iranian memorandum saga, he even admitted that he would now be “turning his attention” back on Ukraine. As such, it’s believable that Trump would have given secret encouragement for Ukraine to “shape the battlefield” in order to “soften” Russia up ahead of any new attempts by the Trump administration to arm-twist the Russians into concessions.

It’s plausible that Trump believes by exacting heavy “costs” on Russia will create favorable conditions for Putin to negotiate and compromise during whatever next round of attempts that Trump’s stooges (Rubio, Lutnick, Witkoff, etc.) have planned; as the above states, Trump reportedly doesn’t believe Putin will do anything without “pressure”.

But if this is the case, then Trump badly misunderstands the Russian temperament and general change of sentiment that has occurred in the post-Anchorage era, wherein several top Russian officials—from Lavrov to Ushakov—have openly nailed shut the coffin of the so-called ‘Spirit of Anchorage’.

You have heard me before—on the edge of the field of battle, when the ache in your chest was the only truth left. You heard me again in the quiet of your home, when the weight of the fathers who came before you settled on your shoulders. Now, at the end of all our speaking, I must speak of the instrument by which the enemy has stolen what our fathers built: the corrupted courts, the unaccountable enforcement, the institutions that were meant to limit power have become the weapons of those who would make themselves powerful.

Throughout our history the pattern is the same. The courts of law and the officers who enforce them, the institutions that sit in judgment and the men who wield that judgment, become corrupted. They overreach. They cease to be servants of the law and become powers unto themselves. They do not only abuse the poor and the weak—they turn, in time, on the very nobles and kings who empowered them or looked away while the rot took hold. Unaccountable judiciary and enforcement always become political tyrants and malevolent agents. They abuse the people first, then they consume or undermine the hands that thought they held the leash. This is not theory. It is the most ancient of fights.

When a judge acquits a violent criminal, that judge is not merely making a legal error. He is making a choice—a choice that endangers every man, woman, and child in that community. When that criminal goes on to harm another, the blood is on the judge’s hands as surely as if he had wielded the weapon himself. When a jury fails to convict the guilty, they are not exercising their independence; they are failing in their duty to protect the innocent. When an officer enforces an unjust law or turns a blind eye to the guilty, he is not serving the law; he is serving the corruption. What, then, does this hard reset demand? Let us be specific—for vagueness serves the enemy, and clarity serves the Common Man.

First: That every judge who has demonstrated bias—who has twisted the law to serve faction, who has acquitted the guilty or convicted the innocent on the basis of favor, who has shown that he cannot be trusted to judge evenly—be removed from the bench. Not reformed. Removed. The seat is not a right; it is a trust, and it has been broken.

Second: That no foreigner—no one who has not been born to the soil, who has not deep ties to the history and community of the place, who has not demonstrated through sacrifice and blood that he is bound to the inheritance—be permitted to serve in any capacity in the judiciary, law enforcement, or any institution of justice. This is not new. It is the ancient law of the Acts of Settlement, reaffirmed across centuries of our history. We demand that it be enforced.

Third: That every officer of the law, every juror, every participant in the machinery of justice, be held accountable for the consequences of their actions. If they acquit the guilty and that guilty man harms the innocent, they are answerable. If they enforce an unjust law, they are answerable. If they fail in their duty to protect the weak, they are answerable. No immunity. No shield of office. No protection from the law they claim to serve. The blood of the innocent is on their hands, and they must answer for it.

Fourth: That juries be drawn from the whole body of the Commons—not from the professional class, not from the politically connected, not from the pool of those who have lost their nerve, not from those who have no stake in the community, not from the factionally malevolent. Juries are the conscience of the community. They must be composed of men who have skin in the game, who have sons to protect, who have fathers to honor, who have a stake in the future of the place they judge.

Fifth: That the institutions of justice be returned to their only legitimate purpose: the protection of the innocent and the punishment of the wicked. Not the protection of the tyrant, the petty powerful. Not the punishment of the inconvenient. The law must serve the people, not the other way around.

The choice is made in the ache of your chest and the iron in your grip.

For years, the Biden Department of Justice kept the full story of what happened to Ryan Samsel buried. Sealed. Classified under layers of institutional protection while a compliant media constructed a narrative that served one purpose — to destroy a man who refused to lie for them. It is now sworn federal court record, backed by medical documentation, nursing reports, and government logs that the Biden administration hoped would never see daylight.

1. At DC Jail, correctional officers zip-tied his hands behind his back, dragged him to a cell deliberately positioned away from cameras, and beat him until he lost consciousness.
2. He was falsely labeled a sex offender — a lie the prosecuting AUSA herself admitted in writing…
3. At Central Virginia Regional Jail, he was shackled from behind in direct violation of his own medical orders, a guard sat on his back, and his head was driven into the ground and down a staircase.
4. At Northern Neck Regional Jail, he was beaten so severely he required CPR. Stabbed in the legs and ankles with keys. Punched. Head slammed into a door.
5. They strapped him into a four-point restraint chair for seventeen hours with no bathroom access while middle school-aged children watched through windows. He developed a blood clot in his leg. Officers mocked him when he could not stand.
6. At USP Lewisburg, a scheduled surgery was anonymously canceled the morning before it was to take place.
7. He was rotated every ten days into solitary cells where the previous occupant had defecated throughout the space. Without gloves. Without cleaning supplies. For three months. Correctional officers delivered his food through the toilet system.
8. He suffered untreated shingles that left permanent nerve damage and scarring across his body. 
9. He was then transferred to MDC Brooklyn and deliberately housed behind the leadership of MS-13, who attacked him for his political beliefs. He was stabbed in the arm and forced to stitch the wound himself because seeking medical attention risked further punishment.

Tag Todd Blanche and Donald Trump. Ask them directly — what does this administration plan to do for Ryan Samsel? What is owed to the man who never broke, never lied, and never abandoned the people he believed in even as they abandoned him?

It seems to be the usual arc of any imperial propaganda drive that when a conflict winds down, and the stakes are no longer at risk, the principles begin to loosen their hold on the truth evident to us all along.

In this case after the disastrous defeat to Iran, Trump went on a remarkable spree of honesty as pertains the “cards”—or rather, lack thereof—that the US had all along. A suddenly forthright Trump began letting the cat out of the bag on the catastrophic consequences the Iranian blockade had in store for us all.

Here he revealed that the world’s oil reserves would have run out in four weeks, and “bedlam” would have ensued:

It seems clear that our analyses here were correct: Trump knew all along that the US was playing a dangerous game of Chicken with Iran, and all his attempts to outlast his arch-rival were bluffs meant to paint Iran as the one “running out of time” when in reality it was Trump’s own sclerotic regime that was up against the hourglass. Now that the dust has settled, he feels comfortable enough to reveal the stark reality of it all.

If you are following the media reports on the Strait of Hormuz you are probably dizzy from hearing about the changing status of the Strait of Hormuz.
