I am not bashing Rubio or Trump. I am asking for your thoughts on this issue.
State collapse is inevitable when a society’s leaders are insulated from the negative consequences of their bad decisions.

Marco Rubio two days ago: "Imagine if Iran funded the welfare of its people instead of its military."

Trump today: "We can't fund daycare or Medicaid; we need more money for our military."

Funding Medicaid and welfare, which was NOT on the Original Agenda, but funding a permanent standing army which was also NOT on the Original Agenda. It hurts my head to even try to justify either at this point when examining the results over the decades.
Correct. A PERMANENT standing army was not on the agenda, and Hamilton fought against this. Nevertheless, Congress has continuously reauthorized army funding since the 1790s, so the U.S. has maintained a de facto permanent standing army — but the constitutional mechanism is always the two-year renewal, not a blanket authorization.
The U.S. Constitution explicitly grants the federal government the power to provide for the common defense. This authority is established in the Preamble, which lists “provide for the common defence” as a primary objective, and is further detailed in Article I, Section 8, which empowers Congress to lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises specifically to “pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States.”
Additionally, the Constitution assigns Congress the power to raise and support Armies, provide and maintain a Navy, and declare War, ensuring the federal government has the necessary legal and financial mechanisms to protect the nation from invasion and domestic violence, as reinforced by Article IV, Section 4.
Yeah, this looks bad, when viewed in this context.
From Brave AI:
“Yes, President Donald Trump made statements with this exact meaning, though the specific wording was different. Speaking at a private White House Easter luncheon on April 1, 2026, he stated: “It’s not possible for us to take care of day care, Medicaid, Medicare, all these individual things.” He added, “We have to take care of one thing: military protection. We have to guard the country.”
Trump explicitly linked the inability to fund these domestic programs to active conflicts, saying, “We’re fighting wars. We can’t take care of day care.” He argued that states should assume responsibility for funding childcare, Medicaid, and Medicare, noting that states would likely need to raise taxes to do so. The White House later clarified that the president was referring to rooting out fraud in these programs, but the video of the remarks was initially posted on the White House’s social media before being removed. ”
Please observe that I quoted Brave AI which is notoriously liberal.
So, everyone knows that President Trump occasionally (okay, frequently) says things that can quite easily be taken out of context, because he doesn’t always complete the idea.
I have two thoughts on this (actually I have several, but I’ll spare everyone the diatribe)…
1. Iran funds their military for offensive purposes primarily. The United States funds the military PRIMARILY for defense, although we have been engaged in an OFFENSIVE campaign against another offensive state all year. Fair enough. I still support smashing a government that has as it’s core values bringing about the end of the world.
Having said this, funding the military FOR THE PROTECTION of our country IS a proper function of government, IMHO. Paying for daycare is NOT a proper function of government.
2. Regarding Medicare and Medicaid, Medicare was a promise made by the government along with Social Security. To fail on this now would be unconscionable, although reforms are needed to be certain. Medicaid is for people (American Citizens, specifically) who are UNABLE to pay for their health care. Now, even though he didn’t SAY it, he certainly has said several other times that the FRAUD in Medicare and Medicaid cannot continue to be funded.
About your comments above–America funds the military for defense?! How about America (for the last 6 decades) funds the military primarily for the defense of the pozi-dollar.
Normally I’d not SNIP this big a section but:
SNIP 1. Iran funds their military for offensive purposes primarily.
CARE to Point out where Iran attacked other folks, Not in response to Americans getting in their face? Aka Barrack bombing was troops STATIONED there to protect our “Greatest Ally” and so on.
The United States funds the military PRIMARILY for defense, although we have been engaged in an OFFENSIVE campaign against another offensive state all year. Fair enough. I still support smashing a government that has as it’s core values bringing about the end of the world.
AGAIN, If America didn’t find it IMPORTANT to PROTECT our “Greatest Ally” we’d not even heard of Iran. In case you forgot WE Regime Changed their ELECTED Government, INSTALLED A Puppet Shah and was dismayed they have a Revolution about it.
You know like American Revolution.
Having said this, funding the military FOR THE PROTECTION of our country IS a proper function of government, IMHO. Paying for daycare is NOT a proper function of government.
Here is a SHORT Summary of the “FOR THE PROTECTION of Our Country (Not Israel, Not Policeman of the whole freaking WORLD).
SNIP Summary
Since 1945, the United States has been continuously engaged in military operations worldwide, with over 30 nations affected by direct or indirect U.S. military action. While formal declarations of war have not occurred since World War II, Congress has authorized many conflicts through resolutions, and the executive branch has initiated numerous operations independently

These engagements reflect a combination of Cold War strategy, counterterrorism efforts, and interventions aimed at regional stability or regime change.
But, but, but they said “Death to America” and they were building a Nuke…
Yeah, since SNIP
In April 1984, the BND leaked a report that Iran might have a nuclear bomb within two years with Pakistani uranium; this was the first public Western intelligence report of a post-revolutionary nuclear weapons program in Iran.
Lets see 2026 – 1984 = 42 YEARS. SLOWEST Terrorists ever.
Only mentioned several times during Bibi’s tenure as needed for MORE US Support.
Iran could have built a “Dirty Bomb” you know that radioactive scrap and HE that would have destroyed Tel Aviv for decades or more in the mid 80’s using existing nuclear reactors given to them by America.
Let’s see 2026 – 1985 = 41 Years. WORST Terrorists ever. Kept FORGETTING how to destroy a city with generational destruction weapons.
MAYBE it was because their Religious Shia Beliefs said NO to it?
You know that Old Cleric Ali Khamenei we Murdered during diplomatic efforts?
A fatwa by Ali Khamenei, then supreme leader of Iran, against the development of nuclear weapons[1] dates back to the mid-1990s.
Sure, a FUNNY WAY to Keep Iran away from building a nuke, eh? Kill off the old Leadership that forbade it.
Will you figure out a way to justify “The Elimination of an entire Culture” as Trump so often boasted about with Nukes” when Bibi NEEDS us to again FIGHT Israels WARS for them?
What’s really amazing is the number of people who heard both of these statements, ONLY IF there was a commercial break during the big game or The View of course, and didn’t connect with the utter insanity of the 2 contradicting statements coming from the countries main leadership.
What’s that sound I hear? Why do I keep hearing fiddles playing every time these morons speak. Oh that’s right the country is burning while they speak.
Uh, if we get into the Wayback Machine to around 1804, Jefferson had to deal with the Barbary Pirates, who were being bought off even then by corrupt, craven, syphilitic-thinking European countries. And the American response was: “Millions for defense but not one cent for tribute.” We all know how the USN and the USMC handled these Muzzie scumbags.
As far as SS is concerned, I and millions of others have PAID INTO that Ponzi Scheme and now we want our money. As far as Medicare and Medicaid, those systems are the nanny-state outgrowth of a private industry medical insurance system initiated by manufacturers during WWII. They needed workers to fill the gaps created by loss on manpower so it was an enticement, if you will. Medicare was a vote-getting scam started by the Democrat Party in the 1960’s. Medicaid is now a political football of the Socialist-Abortion Party.
Between 1804 and LBJ selling us all out to the terrorists in Tel Aviv we had no trouble with the dirty Muslims. You do realize between the 1960s through the mid 1980s, most terrorism in the US was from the Puerto Ricans or the Jews.
