Comments

I am starting to delete comments that make people look stupid or try to incite responses for a personal agenda. Use facts and logic to make a comment. Stop wasting our readers time with unfounded speculation.

  1. Dave, I wouldn’t do this because it’s good to know what people are thinking even if they are stupid. Sometimes and we all make ridiculous comments in the heat of the moment at the articles we read.Think about somewhat-before you do this, it’s just my thoughts on it.

    1. It does have a way of taking the mask off, doesn’t it?
There are most certainly people here who have exposed themselves through comments.
Wether they are what I think they are, or just a blowhard is irrelevant – they are in the 10-foot-pole club due to their comments.

  2. I used to visit the Burning Platform blog / web site several times a day, mainly for the economic opinions. The site has deviated more than I like towards other topics that I find worn out. A single post can generate 50 to 100 replies, many the equivalent of a few individuals texting each other, name calling etc. Which I find useless, very little ‘seek to understand’.

I’m OK with people broadcasting their stupidity so long as its a one off comment. I had a boss who used to say all you can do with stupidity is stand back and admire it. I guess you can delete it as well – lol.

    1. Who else wants to waste time reading stupid, irrelevant or trolling comments?

      1. We don’t have to read them—just skip if they’re pointless. At least we can see who’s writing them, especially if they’re trolling the site, so we can check their handle and figure out who they are as they carry on in their stupidity, particularly if we’re not familiar with them. I’ve been on this site for quite a long time, and there are handle names that pop up often that I don’t recognize, almost like they appeared out of nowhere. These are the ones I’m suspicious of, while the names I do know are the ones that consistently show up.
Just my thoughts, but you are the moderator and you have the right to edit or cancel there dumb remarks if you feel it necessary.

        1. People have no idea how much time it takes every day to moderate comments on this site. What about taking the WRSA path and not allowing comments? I am not venting; I am considering options.

          1. It would be regrettable to cut off comments altogether. While there is a lot of bluster and the occasional dumb remark (at least the ones you allow through) the comments section of a site like this does sometimes develop actual useful nuggets of information.

That said, I certainly understand the frustration with having to constantly moderate, and I know sites like these are a favored target of trolls, bots, and demoralization ops, and the time required to keep them at bay is likely significant. It’s your house and your rules, so ultimately you are the one who determines what direction to take.

          2. David, I am not sure if you have considered getting a few people to do the moderation for you?

          3. FWIW I like making the occasional comment. I can certainly understand your time is valuable.

          4. It’s your house brother. You make the rules and those that don’t like it or disagree can always do something else with their time.

          5. I made the rules. I posted the rules and I listen to suggestions concerning the rules and the site. Are the rules fair and do the rules make this a better site?
