State collapse is inevitable when a society’s leaders are insulated from the negative consequences of their bad decisions.

Back in the 1980s Andre Marrou, the Libertarian Party candidate often noted that the republican party will eventually go away, but the democrats will never disappear, because everyone loves Santa Claus, and that is pretty much ALL the democrats bring to the table.
All the republicans had to do was actually follow through on their promises, but they continually CAMPAIGN as libertarians and govern as socialists/crony capitalists and everyone can see through that BS.
