  1. For a uSoft alternative, check out LibreOffice at

    1. I installed Libreoffice a few years ago. No problems.

      1. Libre Office is good, I’ve used it for years. It pleases me to see this effort at replacing the major apps that have whored out with dutiable alternatives, and I only hope these gain real traction.

  2. Microsoft wants everything to be a cloud solution in a couple years.. including your desktop. You’ll only have a terminal that connects to cloud services and storage. Which means all your private files will be on their servers. Take care of your older computers and especially your linux systems.

    1. The hell they will be. And if conventional PC’s become unusable, we can fall back on raspberry pi and similar single board computers that now have the horsepower to meet the needs of most average users (gamers, and those doing video rendering and other highly intensive stuff will be at a disadvantage, but they are special use cases).

Building up kit computers as was done in the 70’s and early 80’s may become a thing again, as well. I’m still sitting on several old PC’s (including a Pentium 120) and a G3 Mac tower, so I have all the vintage tech I need to remain unsaddled from their subscription based crap. Most of the software I use is ancient, and does what I need it to, so have no need to upgrade to the latest and greatest hardware or software.
