  1. 1 Timothy: “But if any provide not for his own, and especially his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

Proverbs 13:22: A good man leaveth an inheritance for his children’s children . . .”

Boomer fatigue? Or f*ck self righteous Boomers?

    1. It is surprising how quickly the attack on Boomers has occurred. According to the Bible, we are to honor our mothers and fathers. I have never met or heard anyone say they are spending their children’s inheritance. If I had, I would chastise them and never associate with them in the future. Maybe you should define self-righteous and look in the mirror.

      For your consideration:

      Bible Verses about Jealousy

Proverbs 27:4 – Wrath is cruel, anger is overwhelming, but who can stand before jealousy?

1 Corinthians 3:3 – For you are still of the flesh. For while there is jealousy and strife among you, are you not of the flesh and behaving only in a human way?

Exodus 20:17 – “You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male servant, or his female servant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor’s.”

Galatians 5:19-21 – Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Proverbs 14:30 – A tranquil heart gives life to the flesh, but envy makes the bones rot.

James 3:16 – For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice.

James 3:14-16 – But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice.

Song of Solomon 8:6 – Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm, for love is strong as death, jealousy is fierce as the grave. Its flashes are flashes of fire, the very flame of the Lord.

      1 Corinthians 13:4-5 – Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;

      1. Ephesians 6:4, Colossians 3:21. Myself, I don’t pick the parts of the bible that justify my bad behavior.

      2. Nice to know you have no personal examples of people gleeful about spending their children’s inheritance – many, many others have such – both first and secondhand. I’m a bit unclear about the jealousy accusation – by most definitions I am a boomer myself, albeit from the latter part known as Generation Jones. I have stated many times (perhaps not at this blog) that I have been immensely blessed in my life. I have no desire to take cruises or go shopping at this stage in my life.

Define “honor” re one’s parents – The pastor of our church many years ago gave a quite thought-provoking sermon on such. It does not mean “love” – neither in the modern, sentimental sense – nor in the biblical action verb sense. While recollections may vary, I believe I honored my Silent Generation parents the best I was able as an adult.

        1. I am also a “Generation Jones”. I have taken about ten one week vacations while I worked over the course of my working life. I am wondering why our experiences with people’s statements concerning inheritances is so different. I admit that I worked about 50-60 hours a week at a minimum so I did not (and still do not) have much experience in social settings. As for the jealousy accusation, I am trying to figure out why people are attacking our older generation. I can only figure it is jealousy or weak minds that are easily led. I had a little inheritance but it was not anything that would make a difference in my life. On the other hand, I lead a very simple life and will be leaving my children well taken care of. Including the inheritance of the community center and its extras.

I don’t have to define honor. I believe that you and I would differ in its definition no matter what I would say.

          1. David, you indeed do not have to define honor, you live it. It is a shame that so many have to go with “attack mode” with the “class warfare”.
I believe this is being intentionally massaged as one of the narratives to make the older generation appear useless and therefore expendable. The other storyline is that we don’t know how to spend our money “responsibly”. Lots of nonsense coming our these days; perhaps these are distractions from the more important issues facing our country.

          2. I’m with you on that completely. We just took our first whole week vacation in 30 years of marriage.
We just worked. Mind you we did quite a few long weekends in that time.
I can’t remember if it was you specifically, but finally taking a vacation and not worrying about something happening while away finally had no effect on said decision to take a vacation. So just do it as we have no control over bad happenings.
Anyhow, that’s what led us to finally take a vacation.
Hope that made some kind of sense….
