President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on X that Ukrainian forces struck the Syzran refinery in Russia’s Samara region, about 75 miles west of Samara and 466 miles southeast of Moscow. The strike comes days after President Trump urged Ukraine to halt attacks on Russian refineries, as average US retail diesel prices jumped above $6 a gallon and alarming disruptions to global refining capacity threaten fuel supplies ahead of the Northern Hemisphere winter.
Zelenskyy wrote on X:
Russia continues to attack our energy sector, regular logistics, and critical infrastructure. And our responses to them for this are tangible. There are new results from the Defense Forces of Ukraine regarding the refinery in Syzran. There was also a strike in Taganrog on a drone production facility, as well as on a drone preparation and launch site in the Oryol region. Targets were hit in the Black Sea as well. I thank every one of our warriors for the effectiveness of our long-range sanctions!
The day before, the United States also announced a significant decision regarding Russia’s VTB Bank – one of Russia’s systemic banks, which is heavily involved in schemes supporting Russia’s war and, in particular, its relations with the Iranian regime. All such schemes that work against peace truly need to be dismantled. I thank our partners for this useful step!
There is no alternative to ending this war. And all forms of pressure on Russia must create the right diplomatic conditions. Glory to Ukraine!

Oh. So NOW Trump is worried about diesel prices, having topped $6/gal headed into the midterms. It’s a little late for that concern at this stage. It’s meaningless anyway, unless he comes out and publicly disavows israel, and you know that won’t be happening. And hey, it’s just a little short-term pain for long-term gain (remember them trying to sell that line of BS), right?
The war will end when Russia finally kills Zelensky and exterminates all of the NATO azzholes in Ukraine. It’s time for Pres Putin to act decisively and without mercy.
THIS is the thing Putin needs to do, and already should have long ago. I still have difficulty squaring his reticence to take the gloves off, with his stated objectives re: Ukraine. NATO is hosed, in terms of the support they can lend, unless they want to send their own troops in and stoke a direct war with Russia. I don’t think they have the juice left to do that anyway; not for any significant length of time, owing to lack of both adequate supply of munitions and weapons systems, and now personnel, who are already spread too thin.
Russia effectively has NATO on the rocks, save for the possiblity of nuclear strikes. The problem there is that the leadership of NATO is a bunch of belligerent damned fools, whose mouths and attitudes far exceed their war making capability now. Which leaves the nuclear option as the only real deterrent they have left to play. With that in mind, they just might be stupid enough to go there.
As Putins first rule is not to get Mother Russia nuked England’s nukes are a issue.

I get that, and said as much. I guess the unknown – to those of us outside the echelon of information – is how seriously Putin takes the nuclear threat from NATO members. As I stated, leadership of NATO countries are already having much difficulty supporting the war effort against Russia with conventional means. I can only surmise that Putin sees the likelihood of desperation causing NATO to resort to nuclear strikes as very real.
In any case, it’s the only logical explanation I can find for his measured waging of war against Ukraine. It must be proving very costly for Russia to slow roll this effort, and aside from the fact it is exhausting funds and munitions from NATO – which is certainly a side benefit for Russia – it doesn’t make much sense to prolong a war longer than absolutely needed.
Agree but cost of a slow cooker war that has a good chance of keeping NATO nukes unused might be a better option.

The only thing Trump can do to rectify the situation is to pull all support, including info from our satellites and give Zelensky’s location to Putin.
