   Years ago, we used to call deer, ‘government beef’. But you risk prison for killing the king’s deer.

   Well for a couple decades now we’ve espoused the benefits of raising our own meat.
   It’s not a hard thing to do, especially gathering like minded people together to both learning and sharing the costs.
   Learning the butchering process is even a better way to save costs.
   This is for all of them. Deer, cattle, hogs, and all game birds.

      When power to run refrigerators gets slim (to none) look to the smaller meat animals that fed generations before grid power.

      Sheep, rabbits, chickens, ducks and geese. Even the smaller heritage pigs are great producers of meat.

      In Peru I ate and enjoyed Cuy (guinea pig). Once their government encouraged not eating the biggest ones, they bred a nice sized Cuy that could be kept in apartments, yet give a nice bit of meat to a mostly vegetable diet of most poor in Peru.

      Tastes like rabbit.

      Small livestock is easier to raise in smaller homesteads (not all have large pastures and hay making gear) and easily processed to dinner.

      A fishpond has been the finest thing for my homestead.

      Kept clean and managed you can produce heavy crops of duckweed (look it up) and fish for you and your chickens (great protein)

      Supplemental light, a warm chicken house, duckweed (dried) and sprouted grains have kept my chickens egg production pretty high even in Winter.

   Not buying any at the store anymore. I’ll stick with known producers in Florida and a couple of US producers I’ve bought from online before.

   I only shot one buck last year, I now have more motivation to burn every tag I possess this year for my county.
