This is certainly a performance for the ages. And it never gets old. It is also a depressing reminder of what has been taken from us.
Nice, the 77 oakland. I also enjoy the 76 Knebworth, lol walking down the forbidden stage “tongue”, powerful performance visible Honkets off to the side, left the headline Rolling Stones looking second rate that day.
My young children often play these back to back, then Tuesday’s Gone (sadly not performed at Knebworth nor either july 77 Oakland), then surreal classic Zep, and Pink Floyd (The 30 minute Pompeii (Echoes) , some of the wicked abbey and grotto performances, then Uriah Heep and so forth.
Anyhow, Knebworth:
My son played guitar and was into alternative rock (Smashing Pumpkins, etc.). I was in a band in the late 60’s early 70’s. Did classic rock. My first concert was Steppenwolf when I was 16. When my son turned 16 Steppenwolf was doing a 30 year reunion tour and had a show in Asheville. I took my son. He went reluctantly (old guy music). Well, he was blown away. First Steppenwolf and then ZZ Top followed them. He admitted that his alternative rock played like three chords while the ‘old guys’ actually played riffs – actually PLAYED!
I constantly, even today, run into teens who prefer classic rock. Encouraging.

FWIW, I absolutely love all Southern rock, saw several in small venues before they got famous, but absolutely loath Freebird.

I was at that concert in downtown St. Louis. When the Charlie Daniels Band took the stage, he dedicated their performance to “our good friends of Lynyrd Skynyrd”. The CDB played their hearts out, like they always did, but even more so! We was sitting close enough to the stage to see that there were tears running down Charlie’s face pretty much during the whole show. We didn’t know about the plane crash until after the concert was over. Then of course all of the above made more sense in retrospect. IT WAS A NIGHT THAT I WILL NEVER FORGET!
I saw lynyrd skynyrd at the inglewood forum in the seventies, they were the opening act for the who, it should have been the other way round.
