Weighing the Decision on Comments

When this country collapses, are you prepared for internal strife in your community? What about mental illness? What about warlords, gangs or politicians who will not give up their “power”?

Consider the following two comments:

Hmm. Splitting hairs, avoidance, backpedaling, promotion of paganism, heavy use of an AI…things seem to be a-changing here. Whatevs, not my house, not my rug.

And

Fuck you for moderating my words. Seriously, fuck you. My family built this fucking country. My cousin wrote the constitution. My cousins wrecked tyranny. Fuck you and your fucking feelings.

This is a sample of comments which are deleted from the site. As I have put rules for comments on the site and have written several posts concerning decorum, I know that this is just part of the work required to provide and maintain a website.

The first comment is a typical example of what I call a “hit and run”. Accusations are presented with no facts or basis and then the “nevermind” closing. These comments are mainly from trolls trying to denigrate the site. This type of comment is increasing which is why I have been a little less forgiving in some of my replies lately.

The second comment is an example of someone who has had enough and is lashing out irrationally. I don’t know why he thought his comments were being moderated or what his point was. What are you going to do with someone like this in your AO in the future?

I do not want people to think that these are isolated examples. I still delete the calls for open murder, the use of the “n” word (mostly) and anything else that could reflect poorly on this site.

The easy solution would be to turn comments off. That would save me about an hour each and every day that I never get back. But that would also not allow people to post comments with more information or a means to express their thoughts. Comments also give me feedback about what is happening across the nation.

I have received more new subscribers to the site in the past week than in the past three months. I also have increasing failed attempts to log on to the site to hack it. For those who come to this site to learn, thank you. For those who come to sow dissension, prepare for a bleak future when your survival requires good character.

For those who question my faith, I ask why? I know that religion is one of the main tools used to sow division. I believe that religion is a personal issue that should be nurtured and tested in order to grow spiritually. Instead, man uses it for war, genocide and division.

I will keep comments on for now but would like to get some feedback. I also would once again ask that comments contain facts, no personal attacks and stay on topic.

As we descend in economic collapse and chaos, remember our children and why we fight. The rule of law must be reinstated and order maintained. This will not be easy as our morality in this nation has been greatly degraded. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, find people of good character and rebuild a moral country. The purpose of this post is to start organizing and evaluating people now in your AO. One person sowing discontent can destroy any positive progress in a short period of time.

    1. I’ve not found people suitable for an AO. Either too far to each side of the spectrum or simply zero trust both ways. That has been my experience for 20+yrs. There is just no motivation, no hardship, no perceived reasons.
Nothing surprising regarding the comments. You run a great site.

      1. I’m having the same issue. 15 years ago I used to run a local preparedness group in NE GA. We met once a month at a local park with about 15-20 people showing up to discuss various preparedness topics. Out of that group a private MAG formed that my wife and I were part of. Long story short it disbanded in less than a year. Half of the group were Christian and half were not. On top of some disagreements on allowing a homosexual couple (lesbians) into the group, there were one too many alpha dog types. Preparedness minded people lean towards being type A personalities. There was more than a little ‘knocking of heads’ on leadership stuff.

Since that time, I moved to another more rural location and have not found folks around me to hunker down with for when the balloon goes up. (I was in a local CERT team for awhile but, more than a few were liberals with no thoughts of a coming collapse).

    2. I was an admin/moderator on a Facebook group years ago. I know what it is like having to deal with trolls and angry individuals who use their keyboard to vent. Its not fun!

As long as you can stand it, I would allow the comments. As you stated, there is some value in getting the pulse of what others think and have to share.

I’m re-reading ‘One Second After’ right now. In many ways it is a depressing read as I believe it is probably very accurate the way things would go in a grid down situation. It is a reminder of what America will likely look like in the near future and it is not a pretty sight!

      1. Note what had to be done to restore law and order.

        1. As many have responded, less than a handful of people I trust but I see a few hopefuls in my neck of the woods. Harder in a retirement community nestled next to tough blue collar professions. Keep the comments going, if not for the laughs but to keep a pulse on society. Thanks for your blog.

        Hey Brewer55,

Good to see you here and sorry we missed your gathering in N Georgia last year. We never made it past Tennessee!

    3. David, the attacks will only get worse I believe, I do not go on facebook, X or any of the other social media blogs. Things are ramping up as far as nut jobs, trolls etc, I hope you don’t shut down the comments, God bless you for all the hard work you are doing.

    4. I learn at times from comments and allows one to vent to a degree, without comments would still visit, just less.

      Brew,keep looking,there are good folks(perhaps only a few)everywhere,community/clan is important.

    5. Great site. Intelligent comments. Factual news. In a perfect past, we met at the pub and tried to vet one another as best we could. What’s the technological equivalent? I prefer meat space. I’m Piedmont NC. I would do coffee in a neutral locale and have a friendly chat with strangers, knowing a percentage glow. DD has my email. Trust some unknown is the risk required m

    6. I appreciate the chance to comment here very much.
Your house, your rules, your time.

    7. David, this is a great site. Informative, fair and current. Glad I found it.

The comments, on all sites, not just here, have definitely trended toward anger. Lots of cold, hot anger. I understand it and try to use the old count-to-10 before I comment. Many keyboard warriors will vent using the internet, I get it. Decorum has been lost everywhere; there are few sites out there where the commenters utilize common sense and consideration.

After Tuesday’s giant betrayal by the SC, many in this country have come to realize that we are in very dangerous times. All must prepare accordingly with whatever means they have.

You are right on target with your comments at the end: “The rule of law must be reinstated and order maintained. This will not be easy as our morality in this nation has been greatly degraded.”

Sure hope you will maintain the comment section; there is much to be learned and the “echo chamber effect” is sometimes quite reassuring.

    8. The world is a complete cluster fuck!! I believe it is due to the allmighty placing a sprit of great delusion on those that cant see or hear. There is no fixing this! My only hope is the allmighty ends this shit show soon!

      David,

You could make everyone create an account to login here which a lot of trolls don’t like as they prefer sites that allow “free range”.
That should cut down some of the nonsense.
Also, picking a few solid members as moderators could help you monitor this site and help keep it clean.
Whatever you decide those of us that come here to contribute will stand by you in your decisions.

      1. David,we leave a e-mail and a name,seems good enuff.

I do not create accounts/contribute info. to sites that need all that.

Same with me and stores, they won’t give me the lowest price without giving up a fair amount of personal info. I just move along(and leave my intended purchases on the belt).

Multiple moderators could be a issue as many have different points of view of what they allow/do not, really should be admin.s choice.

      2. Comments require an email but it is not verified. Some are obscene but I think most are valid. The email of one of the above comments was “eieio”.

    10. I read your site every day. Thank you so much for all the hard work that you do.

Sadly, I believe that we’re deep into dark times soon. It looks like we’re almost into the really ugly phase of a 4th turning to me.

      Again, thanks so much.

Thanks, David, for all you do. There is no substitute for the gracious, thoughtful and often prescient commentary that appears here.

It’s no place for the hotheads that would also be out of place in any AO service team.

Just today, I have seen a couple of my associates from TBP stop in to comment. I should not be surprised, and I need to read the comments more often!

      Paul

      1. I’m not very technically inclined so forgive if it’s obvious, but would love a way to reach you, Mr. David, personally thru email. But if that’s not something you want to open up, I get it. There are just times I would like to share information but would like it to go directly to you or thru you first. Then if you felt it warranted to share it could be…

Anyways as for this website, like some of the others have said, I do not have Facebook or x or any other kind of social media. Most of my news comes through what you put out, with the exception of a few other reliables sources. The comments often add so much to what is posted. Yes, there are times when there are differing views, and good reasonable arguments should be made as to why one holds to the view they do. Unfortunately, the art of being able to reason with one another has been lost and replaced with intolerance. Nonetheless with you being so faithful to moderate, this site has been my go-to to find like-minded patriots. I would be truly sorry to see the comments shut off.

As for the state of our country, the answer is so easily forgotten in the midst of our own desires to make temporal changes. The answer is found in Scripture, II Chronicles 7:14, “If my people which are called by my name shall humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways than will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” We each have a responsibility to each other to be doing this: 1. Humble prayer. 2. Seeking the face of God. 3. Turning away from our own personal sin for righteousness. Then the Lord will begin the healing of our land. We must believe this! Unless we have the power of God behind us, any pushback against evil will be ineffectual for it is part of our own judgment to bring us back to God. (See Psalm 107)

May our Lord Jesus Christ bless you, Mr. David, keep you from harm, sustain you in this ministry, and direct your decisions concerning this website. I will be praying for you!!

    12. I appreciate the opportunity to comment. I visit sporatically but read several articles each time.
As long as you are willing and have an hour a day to monitor, please keep the comments open.
I recognize this is a brief breath of a “mostly peaceful” Sarc society.
I’m always amazed that whatever “This” “Is” It hasn’t devolved faster. I’ve been thinking 1775 since before Obamy’s Coronation.

    13. I will say deleting the calls of open murder is really trying for me in regards to the guy tim just pardoned who was convicted of molesting a 10 year old multiple times,in theory done so could not be deported.

I would argue the deportation bit but why even send this filth somewhere else where he will molest yet another child?!

That said,am NOT calling for his murder!

      1. I understand and sympathize. The call for murder to which I referred was along the lines of mass murder based on race or religion.

        1. Thanx for the clarification, perhaps we all should take the weekend off/stay hydrated/figure out what we love about our country and what we are willing to do to at least try and save it!

HA HA! As a senior, (seniors tend to dehydrate) I can say with confidence “Nobody is better dehydrated!”
I don’t comment much, but I do appreciate them. Real pearls of wisdom come from the comments.
Thank you for carrying this load, I think it contributes to the general good. It’s one of the few sites I can trust to get good, worthwhile, useful, info and timely warnings.
            Again, thanks.

    14. As you know, David, I have been a regular visitor to your site for some years now. I definitely appreciate it and all you do. i obviously do not always agree and lately it seems that Roth is bent on turning it into Pagan central. But you also know that when Roth stormed off in a huff I was probably his only detractor who encouraged him not to quit. I would just can your site if I was completely put off but you offer insights and perspectives that are worthwhile and not often found elsewhere. Thanks again for what you do.

First , I perceive that you are in almost perpetual surprise by commenters’ behavior as you have described it. Which is ridiculous. People have changed; this is how the majority of the world is now, regardless of political views. I should no more need to point this out than I should the fact that war and violence are constants in human existence. Acknowledge it, understand it, and move on.

This concern you have expressed is only an issue because you are making it one. Again, ridiculous.

I almost never read the comments here; they are typically nothing more than child-like expressions of nonsense, and I would never spend time on such. I do comment from time to time myself, typically for one specific purpose or related purposes: If not already identified as such, I tell you when a posted article is factually wrong or fake. And when you find articles that are wrong or fake and you knowingly leave those articles up so that even more people can read them and be deceived by them, I take you to task for immorality and dishonesty. Is such a personal attack? Hardly. The dictionary-definitions of immorality and dishonesty make the situation self-explanatory. In any case, my point is that should you dislike my taking you to task for this, it is certainly reasonable and expected for you to either delete my comments or to ban me. Your house, your rules.

Do you understand the concept of “Your house, your rules”? I’m not at all sure you do.

If you have a problem that is disturbing you and costing you an hour a day, logic dictates that you remedy the problem. So, quit whining and fix it. Eliminate the comments. There – I’ve solved it for you.

        1. Mr. Warf, prepare the ban hammer!

      1. You are quite a liar. When an article is shown to be incorrect, I leave it up and add a disclaimer with the corrected information or state it is false. If I take it down, some people would still have an issue and say I was covering up my mistakes.

        What a dick.
My apologies for not having a better insult.

    16. I’ve read Zerohedge for years. I used to get as much and sometimes more information from the comments as from the posts. That’s what makes the comments valuable. Over the last several years, the comments section has turned into a name calling zoo. I think between the trolls and the unhinged the comments sections in most blogs have degenerated. Sign of the times, I guess. I really get riled when commenters use pejoratives and ad hominem attacks rather than simply explaining why they may disagree with a post with an evidence based argument. They seem to want to destroy those they disagree with rather than actually win an argument. I doubt they’d behave that way in meat space.

First of all, David, I want to thank you for all of the work you’ve put into this, and all of the aggravation that you have endured for lo, these many years. You are appreciated. I have been an avid reader and visitor to both sites for a long time, although I have only been a regular commenter here for probably less than a year.
I am glad that I decided to contribute to the conversation. I believe that we have a pretty good group here, that most of us are old school and are like minded as concerns the core issues that we discuss.
Some of the reasons that I think the comment space here is beneficial: It helps us realize that we are not alone and that there are others who see what is going on and are willing to make a stand against the manifold treasonous abominations TPTB are foisting upon us; Keeping up with current events from a truthful perspective; We all learn new things concerning preparation, etc; Iron sharpeneth iron- by challenging one another and keeping us in practice per defending our beliefs.
David, you have an important decision to make, brother. I trust that you will make it prayerfully.

    18. I appreciate other people’s comments. I don’t always agree with other folks but I don’t get wound up about their opinions, either. I get perturbed over the nonsense emanating from Washington D.C. That gets me worked up because those people, allegedly ‘representing’ The People, are pure evil.

Thanks for your moderation, David, I appreciate your efforts to ‘herd cats’ at times 🙂

    19. As always, thank you for welcoming me to your house. I met you through Brock Townsend men of the Lord and men of conviction and men of ethics and values are her defined. Thank you for what you do. Hopefully, I’ll meet you in person one day Greg.

    20. “My house, my rules” is pretty easy to understand for anyone who is literate in English. As I’ve said to you before David, you are a patriot in a time of many paytriots. If I’ve been out of line before, my apologies. Blame it on my Scottish blood. Some days more than others I’m ready to wield the old Claymore and swing away. Many of us that visit here are aware that dark and dangerous days are ahead and some will not survive. Here is to hoping for a strong revival of faith and the courage to remove the evil from this nation. And Roth, you’re doing a poor job of pushing paganism. I mean nobody here is ready yet to grab a Norse axe and tattoo runes on their forehead.
