There was a deputy-involved shooting on Thursday afternoon, June 11, 2026, in the Peachtree community (Ferguson Road area) of Cherokee County, North Carolina.
According to Cherokee County Sheriff Chris Wood and local news reports:
- Deputies responded around 4:20 p.m. to a welfare check at a residence involving school-aged children. Additional information indicated a woman at the home had allegedly pointed a firearm at her girlfriend.
- Deputies encountered 41-year-old Trista Danielle Hughes of Murphy, NC, in a Toyota pickup truck in the driveway.
- As a deputy approached and issued commands, Hughes produced a Glock handgun and pointed it at him.
- The deputy fired multiple rounds in response to the immediate threat, striking Hughes at least once in the chest. The firearm remained inside the vehicle, allowing deputies to safely detain her and secure the weapon.
- The deputy was not injured. Hughes continued to be combative and resisted while deputies and EMS provided medical assistance.
- She was airlifted to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga with non-life-threatening injuries. After treatment, she attempted to leave the hospital and was detained by the Chattanooga Police Department.
Hughes has been charged with assault on a law enforcement officer with a firearm; additional charges may follow. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) is conducting an independent investigation. The incident was captured on the deputy’s body camera, as required by department policy.
Sheriff Wood stated that the shooting was in response to an immediate threat and noted: “This incident is not the outcome that anyone wanted… However, it serves as a reminder of the dangers law enforcement officers face every day…” He emphasized the office’s commitment to transparency and said more information would be released as the investigation allows.

Our property taxes are raised to cover a health department scandal settlement of over $50 million. Anther settlement for the sheriff’s department for trying to murder a man and his girlfriend. That sheriff finally resigned due to other issues earlier this year.
Seems welfare checks are pretty dangerous. When did cops become our masters given commands to citizens. I don’t care if they got green hair and they carpet munch. Exactly. I can see the cops rolling up and escalating the situation, that is what cops do. Shouting commands, waving their pistols around. Pretending their safety is more important than the citizens. Cops lie even more often than Trump, I will never again trust a single word out of a cops mouth.
Wife was driving to Walmart, near Peachtree, called to tell me there were at least 8 police cars running hot, ambulance etc. I suspected domestic disturbance.
Side note, we left the gym near the hospital, minutes before a federal prison shot and killed a deputy and drove off.

I was not there. The information in this post came from news sources and the sheriff’s press conference. I did not add her previous arrest two years ago for another welfare check. She was charged with resisting arrest. According to her attorney, she was badly beaten by two deputies. All charges were dropped in court.
If the deputies bodycam footage verifies the story, then she will go to court for trial. That is the way justice is supposed to work.
This is why cops hate domestic calls, they don’t know what they are walking into. And with todays training, every person is a threat. Given that lesbian relationships are statistically among the most abusive and violent, those cops were already high strung going in. There are just not enough people with the right attitude and mindset for the job and so we get ego/power driven individuals with an us/them view.

If it was a 9mm, it aint the round , its fools that dont understand guns and whats shown in the movies and tv is pure bullshit.
In the military we taught 1 rule for combat shooting with the 9mm, hearts and minds. If you use the handgun it’s 2 in the heart and at least 1 between the eyes. and if they don’t go down hard, start unloading the mag in their face until they do. If they have a bomb they can take multiple hits in the body. But good hits in the brain pan stops everything.
A hollow point will not go through a car door. I don’t know what happened since I was not there.
