This is why I carry bear spray with me at all times in a cross-strap chess rig that resembles a man-bag. Some feral tweaker-type came charging up to my window at a stop light a few months ago–and I held up the spray, pointed at him to use it. The chimp was a smarter than the average monkey and saw what awaited if he took a step further. He turned and huffed away. I also carry a 2.5 inch heavy stainless steel nut on a braided lanyard with a key ring on the other end (a massive monkey fist without the braid cover). It the next best thing to a mid-evil mace FYI.
