What Has Been Lost Can Be Restored

“Everything ugly weakens and afflicts man. It recalls decay, danger, impotence; he actually suffers a loss of energy in its presence. The effect of the ugly can be measured with a dynamometer. Whenever man feels in any way depressed, he senses the proximity of something ‘ugly’. His feeling of power, his will to power, his courage, his pride – they decline with the ugly, they increase with the beautiful.”
– Friedrich Nietzsche [Artemis pictured, deity of the hunt]

Be it architecture, attire, grooming, behavior, we have lost the beauty of our ancestors and replaced it with the ugly and profane of Modernity.

We can change … if we will. Change happens a little at a time and by one persons actions at a time.

  1. Hand carved, beautiful creations take time and money. When government STEALS half the wealth and their hidden inflation tax steals even more, expediency wins out over time consuming, labor intensive beauty. Sound currency (meaning stable prices, etc) also creates the environment in which long term projects are started and flourish. YES, BLAME GOVERNMENT.

No argument with the premise. I too find positive emotions in the presence of these historical masterpieces verses current boring crap. Important to understand the root cause in order to make restoration efforts prosper.

  2. Yes, we have lost the beauty of our ancestors in art, music, clothing, writing, etc.
