Escalation Trap

I have a rhetorical question for the reader’s consideration. Has the United States government every been honorable? Has it ever kept a treaty it has entered, or eventually violated every one (ask a Native American for a clue).
Of late, the U.S. entered into negotiations with Iran last summer and then attacked Iran during said negotiations. The end of last month that same ‘strategy’ was repeated. Now this:

Since the start of the war Iran aligned militia in Iraq have fired missiles against U.S. targets. The also used First Person View (FPV) drones for targeted hits (vid) in U.S. encampments. Damage was caused to U.S. missile and air-defense which protected the U.S. Camp Victory and the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad. Two days days ago the U.S. requested a ceasefire to evacuate from its Iraqi bases. A 24 hour ceasefire was granted and U.S. troops were moved to Jordan. Hours later the U.S bombed the headquarter of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF, Hasd al-Shabi) which had negotiated the ceasefire.

I suppose I’m naive. In nature, violence rules, assuming there are any rules at all. I thought humans, especially those ruling my own country, could have risen above such base inclinations and would strive to do the next right and honorable thing. Obviously I was mistaken. Violence, or the threat of violence. Every. Single. Time.

  1. Thanks, Roth, for telling us how it really is.

  2. As an old retired guy with over 4 decades in military and DOD and a family historic military service or over hundreds of years, the simplistic answer is F**K NO.
Maybe with the founding fathers it started out as a pure idea but all republic style governments are the easiest to corrupt. Power corrupts and unchecked power corrupts at a exponential rate.
The main reason I believe its getting worse is Americans have grown soft, weak and perverted and have a video game view on how wars work. There is no harm to the player, family or neighborhoods and endless reanimation life resets.
WE haven’t had the destruction and killing fields come to us on our homeland since the revolutionary and civil wars. Until that happens War is still a detached game you play for fun and profit.
The American people don’t have a clue how soft a target this country is and if badly damaged we DO NOT have the manufacturing base to recover quickly or if ever. The world once they see we are down will come together to keep us down forever to try and stop the perverted mind virus we spread around the world. I am truly amazed that our enemies or the countries we attack just for theft of their resources haven’t hit us back here. I would have long before now.
But eventually one of them will get tired of our crap WILL put us in our place or just end us.

  3. This one is going to be a no holds barred war of attrition. I believe the boots on the ground are going to be used to locate places where the underground bases are vulnerable in order to destroy them and/or entomb the people running them. Spoke to a recently retired Marine last week and his take was that the guys in his MEU would rather invade and destroy Washington DC. This war will probably be the end of Trump and possibly our Republic.

FYI–there are dozens of these underground complexes–all heavily guarded and impenetrable. I doubt any type of force will be able to get into the interior of Iran to locate a restroom, rather than an underground missile city. And most of these facilities that are launching missiles now are located in the mountains of Eastern Iran, far from gulf where landing will occur. No doubt this will be the end of the Trump agenda and political movement–this is a certainty. This is finished as it has become abundantly clear that Israel is running our country and not the American people. I was thoroughly surprised to discover that Hegseth was in fact a slathering, raving Christian-Zionist, end-times, rapture-Junkie. It’s one thing to believe in such rubbish–but it is another thing altogether to have you finger on the trigger of nuclear weapons and be in a position of influence and power to propel your insane beliefs into reality. There is no difference between that fools and the insane Mullah’s who want the return of their “Mahdi” to come in apocalyptic flames.

  4. Every single time sums it up. Treaties can also be very punitive in nature and intentionally or unintentionally designed to be broken. Ask Uncle H…
