Copper sold out? Maybe this is why they stopped producing pennys as they need the copper for the war effort?
They made pennys from steel back in the 40’s so the copper could be used for other things during WW2.
SD Bullion appears to be out of copper as well.
Copper pennies were last minted in 1982. Pennies that were made prior to the change to copper plated pennies are worth (based on this morning’s price of copper) about five cents each because of their copper content.

I’ve got several thousand ounces of steel/aluminum knockouts from electrical receptacle boxes saved over many years. Bonus: they are pre-punched, with small burrs at four points (please be cautious), and have the look and feel of real money! Make me an offer!

Apmex is sold out of their big bars too (10oz, 1kilo, etc.). I have bought some copper coins (image of Ron Paul, etc.) because I liked the design, and because copper is a great color coin. We have a lot of copper “straws” (raw copper pieces from the mines) from the UP of Michigan (my wife’s family is from there – actually heavy copper area).
The vast majority of copper produced goes to the construction and electronics industries. These industries buy it before it’s even mined so they get first crack at it. It’s the “leftover” production that goes to metal collectors. So if industry buys more than production there won’t be any left over for places like bullion dealers.
Glad I bought a bunch of 1 ounce copper “trade dollars” years ago and saved copper pennies (nickels also). The wife used to think I was crazy putting half of savings into gold, silver, and platinum. Now she is glad we have them to backstop our retirement.
Ditto, and I do not try to rub it in. Telling a woman, “I told you so,” does not work to one’s benefit in the long run.
One’s food begins to taste a bit “off”…
