    Ukraine didn’t agree to the deal. The EU hates it. And Russia hasn’t even been shown a cop of it. And Russia will not agree to this. Ukraine and the EU say that you can’t take land by force. Apparently, they forgot how the US stole Kosovo from Serbia. We still have a large military base in Kosovo.

    Trump vacillates wildly on wanting to broker a peace deal on this, as he has had previous proposals (and even meetings) followed on by contradictory public statements that end up insulting and inflaming Russia. In much the same fashion he keeps making stupid, unforced errors on domestic policy that has him bleeding support of those who voted for him. There is an established pattern of behavior here, and it is not to his benefit.

    At this point, I really don’t understand what the hell he’s doing (or trying to do). Never has someone come into office with so much potential, only to squander so much of it so quickly. Russia, meanwhile, will keep on doing what they’ve been doing, taking more territory and demilitarizing Ukraine by killing off ever more of their forces, and destroying ever more of their (uh, our) hardware.

    All of these still-born attempts at a peace deal are simply giving Russia more time to make their takeover of the portions of (shall I just go ahead and say former) Ukraine an accomplished fact, that will not be subject to any negotiation by hapless fools in Europe or the US. Both of whom continue to imagine themselves having leverage that doesn’t exist, in point of fact.
