We have a friend in SC who in insuranceat the local level, she warned us this would happen.
Here’s a link to the page which has a link to send public comments on this: https://www.ncdoi.gov/news/press-releases/2025/11/03/insurance-companies-request-683-increase-dwelling-policies
Okay, more information. This refers to dwelling insurance rates, which are not the same as homeowners’ insurance rates. From the Commission website:
“Dwelling insurance policies are not homeowners’ insurance policies. Dwelling policies are offered to non-owner-occupied residences of no more than four units, including rental properties, investment properties and other properties that are not occupied full time by the property owner.”
If it were to be approved, it would have a significant effect on renters. Additionally we should absolutely anticipate a similar request regarding homeowners’ insurance rates in the near future. This was definitely a wake-up call.
