From Huter der Irminsul (Guardian of the Irminsul)

I’m a classic migraine sufferer. For many years, my first instinct was to reach for pharmaceutical medication. That was the obvious thing to do, because migraines can rob you of your entire day and make every little thing a burden.

However, some time ago I came across an interesting approach: a large glass of water with a heaping pinch of Himalayan salt. To be honest, I was skeptical at first.

Nevertheless, I tried it – and was surprised. In my case, it actually helped. What particularly astonished me was that after taking medication, I often felt a slight pressure in my head that sometimes lingered for several days. With the salt water, this feeling disappeared much faster.

Of course, I can only speak from my own experience, and what helps one person won’t necessarily work for everyone. Migraines are a complex issue with many contributing factors.

Nevertheless, this experience reminded me that not every answer has to come from the pharmacy. Sometimes the simplest things are closer than we think. Water and salt are among humankind’s oldest companions. Our ancestors already knew their value—not as miracle cures, but as fundamental elements of life.

In Norse-Germanic tradition, we repeatedly encounter the idea that the forces of nature are more than mere resources. Springs, rivers, and the sea were considered places of special power. Water symbolized life, renewal, and healing. Salt, in turn, was so valuable for centuries that in some places it almost held the status of currency.

Perhaps therein lies a small reminder for our modern times: Not everything that helps has to be complicated. Sometimes, a path that works for you can be found somewhere between high-tech medicine and ancient wisdom.

Sometimes we look for solutions in the most complicated ways and overlook what has been right in front of us for centuries. Our ancestors trusted the forces of nature not out of superstition, but out of experience. Water, salt, herbs, and observing their own bodies were part of everyday life for a long time.

For me, this simple glass of water with a pinch of salt was worth more than many a pill. I can’t say whether it helps everyone. But it showed me that the simplest ways can sometimes be the most effective.

As the old Norsemen said: Not all strength comes from the sword—some springs from the source.

Hope all have good health but look into alts if you need a hand.

In how much water? I’m going for precision amounts. I’m happy to dump a teaspoon of pink salt into 8 or 16 ounces of water and chug it, I was just wanting to be certain that however much I use is going to get the job done

We are Americans. Not Germans or Vikings. I am surprised you are over 70. Your writings remind me of an 18yo college freshman with no experience in the world. Lots of theory with NO relevance to real life.

    1. Actually, I carry German blood. My ancestor Johan arrived in America from Leipzig in 1709. His grandson fought in the Revolution against the British and my great grandfather fought the Yankees in the War of Northern Aggression. So I’m American, but carry German blood of which I am most proud. And Germans weren’t Vikings, nor were all pre-Christian Europeans. The posts I share here to which you likely refer are from a German language Telegram channel that I have machine translated. They regard pre-Christian Germans, not Vikings, although the spiritual understandings of those groups were very similar.

As to relevance to real life, that’s why I post them. You’re entitled to your opinion as I’m entitled to mine. Mine is that we would be a much healthier society if we returned to the traditional ways of our European ancestors regardless of whether we remain Christian or return to our Old Ways faith.

I have a question for you. Exactly what part of this particular post offended you? What part of the post do you disagree with?

    2. This comment has no basis in facts. Roth is a well educated man and a successful businessman. When it comes to medical remedies, I would look at all options and their side effects. After COVID-19 and the false information concerning cholesterol levels/statins, all advice from a “medical” doctor is suspect.

  4. Thank you for the migraine tip Roth. My granddaughter suffers 3or more debilitating episodes a month. I will let you know how it works. I use the pink Himalayan salt with lemon juice in water for my electrolyte issues. Never thought about trying it for migraines. God bless from a Georgia granny.

    1. Terry, the lemon juice will also help prevent kidney stones,so,a double win!

  5. My wife had migraines almost daily for 30+ years until we found DMSO. We use a 30-50% filtered water/distilled water and dmso. To that we add magnesium flakes. Look up the amount to make magnesium oil.

As soon as she feels the beginnings of a migraine I rub some all across her forehead and temples…sometimes back of neck and behind ears depending on where it is developing.

It almost always stops or extremely diminishes the migraine.

There have even been day where she now doesn’t have them. For over 30 years that almost never happened. We praise the Lord for guiding us to this every day.

She literally has all types, with aura, without aura, hemeplegic (sp), etc. She has seen multiple Docs over the years and basically been told repeatedly they can do nothing for her.

Of course, your mileage may vary but it works for her in a dramatic way.

    1. Excellent Lord,(not the wifes migraine obviously!),DSMO has it seems so many helpful uses, thanks for putting out a recipe that works for you folks that others may benefit from, this is how we as a society help heal ourselves.

I hope this link goes up,a lot on DSMO:

I have a lot more info/links on alt stuff and allow our gracious site host to hand out me e-mail to any who want more info.

      Best of health to all!

      1. Yes am very familiar with midwesterndoc…member of his substack and read everything he publishes…he’s amazing

  6. My wife has occasional migraines. I found a homeopathic remedy that works for her based on belladonna. I am also a fan of non-allopathic methods of treating ailments. Modern medicine is based on profit and belief in whatever remedy is currently being pushed by Big Pharma. There is of course no magic cures. The greater part of good health is your lifestyle.
