I saw an interesting video on YouTube about tick control in your yard by setting up a boarder of cedar shavings about 3 feet wide and 3 inches deep. The oils in cedar shavings will kill the ticks. They also suggested spraying the yard with cedar oil as well.
Another trick they showed was to apply duct tape around your calf with the sticky side out. Any ticks crawling up your leg will get trapped before they can get you.
