  1. Being an 81 yr old retired vet and computer illiterate to a great degree, I have no idea what that post means. Help. Is it good, bad, or ugly?

    1. It’s all three. It is a demonstration of what is possible, something that was considered impossible/completely un-affordable six months ago. It is a demonstration of how the AI ecosystem is growing not in a linear fashion, nor a logarithmic fashion, but probably at an exponential fashion. It is a demonstration of how AI can create images from simple text descriptions, and you can either select cartoonish, painterly, or even full photographic HD, indistinguishable from an image created by the finest digital camera.

It’s also a promise of what to expect. I said to my family about three months ago that very soon, within six months, that an AI could read and interpret, for example, a work of science fiction, or a thriller, or some other drama in book form, and within hours, and eventually minutes, create a full-length movie, complete with cast, special effects, music, etc. It will complete rewrite the movie industry, much like, but far more impactful than online streaming changed the music industry. This is merely one minor aspect of what AI will be capable of.

See the other posts on this site today to see what else AI is doing. The really ugly part is that, at least for the foreseeable future, jobs that people have historically done, such as legal, accounting, sales, customer support, design and very nearly everything else that doesn’t include turning a wrench or welding a seam (at least for the moment) will be eliminated.

The good news, if there is any, is that if people aren’t working, nobody will be able to hire services, and the ecosystem will, to some degree, correct. The bad news is that many people will become unnecessary, and governments have a nasty habit of purging groups of people they determine to be unnecessary.

    2. The same question could be asked of our government. It could be good but it is not. It could be bad but instead it turned ugly. Tyranny, control, human trafficking and everything else to satisfy their greed and lust for power. There is only one way out at this point and it is not the ballot box. Just look at Virginia to see the path all government has taken.

  2. That “someone” is likely doing his at the best of the deep state swamp. A free AI tool to create fake imagery is useful to the propagandists and those seeking to keep people misdirected.
