  1. Proverbs 20:10
Divers weights, and divers measures, both of them are alike abomination to the Lord.

  2. All states have a Department Of Weights And Measures response for scale accuracy. They should be involved in making sure ALL scales in a store are accurate. And the state AG should be charging and fini g EVERY store that has his happen. But Walmart has enormous political clout and can use short circuit any investigations.

  3. I firmly believe that the entire world would be better off without government. Certainly the US would. That being said, if government is to have ANY ROLE (other than protecting the borders), it is in protecting against and prosecuting FRAUD. The foundation of civil society is in the exchange of goods and services for money/barter. HONESTY in weights and measures is one of the critical factors that is required for that to run effectively.

  4. There was no consistent % in the markup, but they were all within 35% to 45%, i.e., 2.41lbs (actual)/5.51lbs (price) = 43.74% markup.

My first suspicion is someone deliberately applying pressure to the scale with a finger. If true, that is not the only problem they have with sabotage.

I suspect malice occurring at the location towards the customer.

Although, another reason might be employee theft. If via inventory they are given 50lbs of a particular meat, the 35% markup is sold to the customer, masking what was stolen by the employee. They’re selling the meat black market.
