Is “HOLY SHIT” too tame a response?
It’s the collateral damage that needs to be of greater concern. In 1929 the shit didn’t completely hit the fan because EVERYTHING FAILED. Some things went bad, but lots of people needed to cover margins, and great companies got sold to cover other losses and everything was hurt in the end. Lots of margin to cover here.
