  1. Lear 60 ran into icing conditions. Tried to divert up and away from the turbulence and then made an uncontrolled full power dive. 20,000 ft per min.
Hit the ground at close to Mach 1.

I overhaul a critical flight stabilizing piece on Lear 35 and 36A’s. This is just horrific news to see and listen to. ATC comms are public.

I watched a very slow motion view of it crashing, and it looked like the horizontal stabilizer was already gone before impact. Also it did sound like about Mach 1 as you didn’t hear it until it was right abeam the camera. A real tragedy but with that speed no one felt a thing.

      1. The piece I Overhaul is the Horizontal Stabilizer Actuator.

The motors driving the Jack Screw can literally shear the entire assembly apart.

There are electrical and mechanical stops put into the Actuator for safety reasons, but an uncontrolled descent at 20k fpm at full power with the pilot fighting the whole way down *may have been the reason why those safeties failed and the motors just drove until complete destruction.

  2. Left more wreckage and a bigger hole than the “plane” that crashed into the Pentagon and the “plane” that crashed in Pennsylvania on 9-11.
