Are we saying that modern day main-stream Christianity is ‘good for nothing?’ –if so you are correct in that it is designed to mollify you, designed to hold you down and to turn the other cheek as your default mode. Case in point–the street preachers, standing out alone (bravely) on some busy corner and assaulted regularly–when instead they should be surrounded and protected by cage-fighting types, standing their ground aggressively.
four‑stage civilizational cycle:
Hard times → strong men (adversity builds resilience)
Strong men → good times (competence creates stability and prosperity)
Good times → weak men (comfort reduces discipline and toughness)
Weak men → hard times (decline leads back to struggle)
The men that stormed Normandy’s beaches were from the HARD TIMES of the Great Depression.
The Vast Majority were Christian.
Same for the Bomber Crews that flew through the Luftwaffe and Flak with often heavy casualties and trips to German Prison Camps.
The “meek” christians (lower case intended) were created by the tolerance and good living of “good times”. Times of Trouble they will be die off and be replaced by the Warrior Christians of old.
Give respect to street preachers getting attacked while speaking the WORD.
Unlike so many on this board they get out there and DO, not just beat their keyboards to death about “My *hit is by the door and I’m READY to GO” nonsense for several years now.
In an interesting interview Neil Howe gave year later (after the death of Strauss), he discussed how this theory can be seen as derivatives of a single thing: “order”
If you see “order” as a product, for which there is “supply”, and “demand”, you get the four cycles:
High supply, High demand: high trust, high conformity
High supply, Low demand: high trust, rejection of conformity for freedom
Low supply, Low demand: low trust chaos, in group defense
Low supply, High demand: low trust, demand for conformity
I’m sure there are better/more accurate descriptions than mine, but these four states are produced by supply and demand (two binary variables in this simplification, producing 2 squared states), of one thing: “order”.
