The United States produces much more wheat then it consumes. Close to 50%. This is a staple, and producers should be encouraged to preserve affordable prices for our country and let the European nations pay for the shortage they seem to be experiencing. How to do this? Well, you either have government forces or market forces. I suggest significant tax exemptions for the farmers and producers that sell wheat and wheat products where the end consumers are Americans. The government can make it up on essentially reverse-tariffs for products that are exported. The only reason I hate this idea is because it involves the government, but perhaps a proper function of the United States government is to protect the American people… IDK.
Same thing for corn, although we consume a good deal more of the corn we produce than wheat, but we are still a net exporter. Perhaps, as soon as we are able to increase our own oil refining capability, more of our own oil will be used for OUR country, and our dependence on ethanol for fuel, which accounts for 43% of our corn production, will go down. Perhaps we could consider repealing the EPA’s Renewable Fuel Standard, the RSF Mandate, which would reduce the demand for ethanol, and thus reduce the price that farmers charge.
Basically up-regulate exports and down-regulate domestic products that are produced by Americans FOR Americans.
