Not surprised, though I feel bad for the poor slob who makes #101,000 next year.
If we wanted to be fair and equitable to ALL Americans we would legislate a Flat Tax [Dick Armey of TX, years age, calculated that a 17% flat tax could run the entire shitshow].
That means a Flat Tax on everyone–EVERYONE–including peeps who make $30K.
Why should anyone be deprived of the right, privilege and duty to contribute to our society, schools, jails, courts, roads & highways, etc?
Give the schlebs some “pride of ownership” by asking them to send in their 17% “fair share!”
Sure! Right! Now watch the scrambling to avoid any taxes whatsoever.
Half the Nation today are students (and other full Leftards), products of the demo-communist party & their communist “higher education” University abomination; the rest are the newly arrived, legal and illegal, here for the GIBS.
The ONLY moral flat tax is 0%.
Get government out of our lives, economy, medicine, education, parenting, transportation, banking, money, etc and watch freedom and success flourish.
The services people want will be supported and that’s it.
Zero would be my number as well but reality bites–hard–and I thought that some # > 0.00 needed to be offered.
Uh, since we did not have an Income Tax until the 16th Amendment, how was the government funded? Well, it’s my understanding excise taxes and tariffs funded the FEDGOV. State taxes and charities took care of orphans, indigents, and local issues.
Sadly, any movement back towards such a system would be resisted violently. Ever since the days of Frank the Cripple, the stupid American Sheeple have demanded the Leviathan take care of them. Anyone such as Von Mises, Rand, Aaron Russo, and others who contend against this Marxist system is marginalized, vilified, and threatened. Maybe, just maybe, Americans will wake up when the system goes full Weimar. I doubt it.
Right on with that assessment. The other wrinkle here is that the $2000 might pay some taxes on insurance premiums this year, but will worsen inflation next year, so all of us who don’t have Warren Buffett levels of “f you money” will be even further behind than we were before the stimmy checks. Consider the inflation (and the unaffordability of eggs) that set in after pedo joey’s COVID stimmy checks.
Admittedly, there was far more “free money” than just those checks being sloshed around during COVID, but the point stands; much of the fiscal crisis we are now experiencing is rooted in the unrestrained money printing of 3-4 years ago. This round will have the same effect, ultimately making the situation even worse.
That will fire up the inflation! No way the dollar avoids eroding a lot more.
The greatest hedge against inflation is OWNERSHIP.
Prep, buy now; it will cost more next year–if even available.
Why discriminate against those making over $100k? They are taxpaying Americans. They deserve a bonus check, too.
If government can afford to give everyone a $2,000 check, then taxes are too high. So, we have income taxes, property tax, sales tax, import (tariff) tax (which the consumer ultimately pays), inflation tax, etc. etc. etc.
But, hey, you get that $2,000 that was stolen from you under threat of jail and/or property seizure. It’s like a thief breaks into your house and steals half your stuff and comes back later to “gift” you one of your items.
Stimmy-Chex 2.0! What ever could they be distracting us from this time?
“It is no crime to be ignorant of economics, which is, after all, a specialized discipline and one that most people consider to be a ‘dismal science.’ But it is totally irresponsible to have a loud and vociferous opinion on economic subjects while remaining in this state of ignorance.”
