I saw this yesterday and have been thinking about it ever since. People will miss the point if they don’t read the whole tweet. We still have the ability to make decisions without coercion. The moral path in many cases is to walk away instead of making choices imposed on us to manipulate and divide us.

My husband was reading history of the Salem witch trials, a very sad time in history. He told me this morning that the last death that occurred was with a man whom like all the others in order for their trial to proceed had to say “innocent” or “not guilty”. This man instead of allowing the trial to proceed with choosing one of those two options, chose to remain silent. Those forcing him, not liking his response, started piling rocks on him hoping eventually to elicit his response. Instead, he died of suffocation at the hands of those who were trying to play “god”, but implicated themselves in murder, and he became the last one to be killed.
I liked Eric Raymond’s tweet. Good food for thought. We actually do have other options than what we’re given.
Thank you.
Situational ethics is what those stupid dilemmas used to be called. They were designed to do nothing more than to mess with your psyche.
Indeed, beating the crap out of the person asking you to make those choices is acceptable. Just walking away and not playing is also acceptable.
No shock that violence against government types is treated WORSE than against us tax slaving peons… Soldiers are supposedly allowed to disobey an unlawful order…but who decides what is lawful? And when that happens, the government ALWAYS COMES DOWN ON THEM LIKE A TON OF BRICKS.
Joshua: Greetings, Professor Falken.
Stephen Falken: Hello, Joshua.
Joshua: A strange game. The only winning move is not to play.
