Poverty

From Grok:

Is the hourly wage the metric upon which we should consider our wealth? The government’s bankruptcy through a crushing national debt and corporate greed have brought our nation’s payroll to this point. I remember being paid $9.50 as a nuclear construction engineer supervising two other engineers in 1984. Working fifty hours a week allowed me an apartment and an old car. I made $28,000 in a year only because of mandatory overtime. My base salary was under $20,000. When I left, my immediate supervisor told me that I was their best engineer out of over thirty even though I one of the lowest paid.

This experience laid the basis for me to save enough money so that I could open my own business which allowed me a middle class lifestyle.

What is a fair wage? What is a fair tax rate? What is a fair price for affordable health care, insurance, property taxes or food? These are not the questions we should be asking. If a man cannot afford a small home and the ability to feed and clothe his family on a 40 hour workweek, the system will collapse.

I doubt we will solve this issue before robotics and AI makes people disposable. Is this the life that the Lord intended for faithful and moral people?

  1. Don’t overlook the fact that many people remain in poverty willingly so that they can claim welfare, ss benefits, and medicaid. We even pay hasidics in Brooklyn to raise 10 children each on the tax payers’ dime while working people struggle.

  2. .. likewise explain to me why there are so many obese ‘poor’ people.

  3. The unfortunate reality is that a certain percentage of the population only has the intelligence to work a factory or other ” low skill job” , once those jobs are off shored the rest of the population will be draged down by the application of negativity rights i.e. the welfare state that they are forced to support.

    1. I was going to say.. I don’t dispute David’s points, however.
Minimum wage does not equal middle-class. Burger flippers don’t get a house in the burbs and 2 honda’s in the driveway. They share a 3 bedroom apt above a bowling alley, that’s what minimum wage gets you. Work hard, you’ll be assistant manager in a year or two, and THEN talk to me about a livable wage.
I would wager David’s business and profession require a certain skillset and minimum education levels in order to succeed? He had to make significant investments into his skill set to achieve middle-class life. The problem we are facing is people want that life but don’t want to make that investment or do that work.

  4. According to whom, Mr. David? The health and wealth megachurches of today or the Holy Scriptures?? I too have had to realign my thinking with the Scriptures.

Here’s what the Scriptures say to the rich (My interpretation: the NGOs, politicians, and lawmakers who have stolen from the citizens of America):

“Go to now you rich man weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you! Your riches are corrupted and your garments are moth-eaten! Your gold and silver is cankered and the rest of them shall be a witness against you and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. You have heaped treasure together for the last days. Behold the hire of the laborers who have reaped your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of Sabbath. You have lived in pleasure on the Earth and been wanton. You have nourished your hearts as in the day of slaughter. You have condemned and killed the just and he doth not resist you.”

This is what the Scriptures say concerning this to those who fear God and keep His commandments, in other words, the children of God:

“Be patient therefore, Brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold the Husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the Earth and hath a long patience for it until He receive the early and the latter rain. Be ye also patient. Establish your hearts for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh. Grudge not one against another, Brethren, lest you be condemned. Behold the Judge stands before the door. Take my brethren the prophets who have spoken in the name of the Lord for an example of suffering affliction and of patience. Behold, we count them happy which endure. You have heard of the patience of Job and have seen the end of the Lord that the Lord is very pitiful and of tender mercy.” (James 1:1-11)

Here’s another one: “We are fools for Christ’s sake, but you are wise in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong; you are honorable, but we are despised. Even at this present hour, we both hunger and thirst and are naked and are buffetted and have no certain dwelling place. And labor working with our own hands. Being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it; being defamed, we entreat. We are made as the filth of the world and are the offscoring of all things unto this day.” (1 Cor. 4:10-13)

One last one: ” Beloved think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you as though some strange thing happened unto you. But rejoice inasmuch as you are partakers of Christ’s sufferings that when His glory shall be revealed, you may be glad also with exceeding joy. If you be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are you for the spirit of Glory and of God rests upon you. On their part He is evil spoken of, but on your part He is glorified. Let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters. Yet if any man suffer as a Christian let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God on this behalf. For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God, and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the Gospel of God? And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God, commit the keeping of their souls to Him in well doing as unto a Faithful Creator.”

  5. During my travels around the planet on uncle sam’s credit card, I always made a point to learn about the country I was in and how they lived both for my profession on how to defeat them or just learn about them from a personal slant which helped me personally and my military job.

One thing that struck me was the drastic differences in a normal persons daily life cost’s. Both between other countries other than the US and difference between costs including the US.

Surprisingly people and their daily needs are close to the same in a lot of ways around the whole world.

I stay away from adding in taxes so I just do the item not whatever amount their .GOV is screwing them for.

But shockingly what got to me to see what items cost OCONUS vs what we pay here for them.

For those who haven’t been outside this country much, it can really open your eyes what we pay vs the rest of the world. And unfortunately it WILL piss you off on a lots of items you buy here.

To me the biggest reason for cost difference is the level of fuckery which ever .GOV country does to their people and to me we get the biggest unlubed shafting ever even with our currency being the global reserve. Which basically means the world pays for OUR debt….

    1. I know.. and I can go to Alibaba and buy that same sd card that costs me $60 bucks at BestBuy for $3. But they don’t ship to the uDSA. Otherwise I am rather convinced that many many ‘poor’ people will do anything to justify their poverty and abhor wealth. It’s a stockholm syndrome type thing… or maybe simply learned behavior. I heard once that King David was a very rich man, Abraham also. Imagine that.

  6. The old saying “nothing is certain except death and taxes” should probably be amended to include poverty. No matter how much wealth is generated there will always be a significant percentage who live in poverty. The reasons for that are numerous but the reality of it is undeniable.

  7. The ladder of success requires starting on the bottom rung and working your way up. Every rise in the minimum wage, destroys the lowest rung on the ladder and makes that first one harder to reach for those without skills or value to deliver to an employer. When the government STEALS 50% of the wealth of the nation through taxation and the hidden tax of inflation, the ability of businesses to pay decent wages is further reduced, along with the ability of consumers to pay for ever increasing prices.
