War On Iran: – U.S. Opts For Containment – Iran Plans To Attack

So far the U.S. has lost all phases of its war on Iran.

The U.S. is thus resorting to economic pressure. Its trying to uphold a sea blockade against Iran. And yesterday Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced a new economic war campaign:

“Watch this space for more announcements coming next week because we are going to apply measures like have never been seen in the history of economic isolation on a country,” Bessent said Thursday in an interview with Newsmax.

Bessent said the move will be part of a “one-two punch” that includes the continued blockade of Iran’s ports.

The Secretary did not explain how the new campaign would differ from Trump’s failed 2018 campaign of “maximum pressure“. Trump had renewed that campaign in February 2025 without it showing any result.

Iran has announced that it is new strategy is to go offensive:

An adviser and aide to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Khamenei says the Leader’s strategy for Iran to shift the war to an offensive phase if its conditions are not met will “undoubtedly change the equations of power in the world.”

Mohammad Mokhber made the remarks in a post on his personal page on Thursday, linking the strategy to developments surrounding the Strait of Hormuz and the failure of the United States to protect its allies in the Persian Gulf.

“The definite strategy of the Leader to make the war offensive if Iran’s conditions are not fulfilled will undoubtedly change the equations of power in the world,” Mokhber wrote.

Its options to do so?

It could finally start to directly attack those U.S. ships which try to blockade the country. It could launch drones against any place in the Middle East that houses U.S. military. There are also many U.S. companies which operate in the Gulf countries.

A containment strategy assumes that Iran, or any of its friends and allies, will not hit back or take aggressive counter measures. It also presumes that the U.S. can sustain a lack of hydrocarbon for a longer time than its experts think.

But whatever the U.S. may think or do, Iran is unlikely to be afraid of it.

    Perhaps war in 2026 will differ greatly from WWII; but the simple lack of homegrown industrial manufacturing capabilities alone will preclude the fUSA from any meaningful offense. It’s almost like TPTB have been destroying this one great republic on purpose?!?!? (sarcasm inferred)

      A year ago, I would have agreed with you. The war in the Middle East has exposed the vulnerabilities of an outdated generation of weapons systems in a new generation of low cost, effective weapsons. Do not underestimate the ability of Elon Musk or Palmer Luckey to develop and produce new weapons systems in a short period of time for the US. Assuming that they would develop weapons that could destroy the world.

        We have, IIRC, seventeen named intel agencies (and likely many, many more “black” agencies (with black, unlimited budgets).

        One would think that all of these super-smart, “creme de la merde” war-game specialists would have known, in the run-up to 28 February 2026, that our weapons systems were garbage when compared with what we have known about drones, hypersonic, etc.

        And why does Trump blather on about building a fleet of “Trump Class Carrier Attack Groups” when our current carriers are forced to loiter beyond a 200km range due to the threat posed by $20,000 Iranian drones?

        This war showcases us as The United States of Idiocracy.

        Every nation on Earth has been able to peek under our (military) skirt to find that we’re not wearing panties.

What you have in DC is a vast echo chamber of status thought, propelled by the “military industrial complex” which President Eisenhower warned us about decades ago–and which has mutated and multiplied far more than that president could ever have imagined.

    Ah yes, the old “we’ll get them with sanctions, because we don’t have the resources (or the testicular fortitude) to get them via direct confrontation” play. Meanwhile, Iran remains a militarily capable nation with an apparent deep stockpile of missiles that they can continue lobbing at high value targets all over the region, thereby fomenting the further economic ruination of the entire world via the impact on oil supplies and prices, and all that is downstream from them.

    I’ll bet the FUSA and the rest of the west caves under the pressure before Iran runs out of the ability to go on doing even more damage. And once the tipping point is reached, recovery from the disaster caused by the impact on oil and all of its derivatives will be exponentially more difficult to recover from. This is a game of chicken that the FUSA cannot win, because even if Iran is destroyed, they can take us with them simply through the economic realities imposed by and acute shortage of oil, and it’s rapid and uncontained rise in price. This is just a different variation of mutually assured destruction, with any perceived “victory” for “our side” being pyrrhic.

    Just for the readers information the photo of the ship on fire at the beginning of this article is that of the USS Bonhomme Richard that occurred on 12 July 2020 in San Diego. The ship was decommissioned 14 April 2021. The vessel had nothing to do with the ongoing war with Iran. The only ships that I am aware of burning were that of the Iranian Navy which has, all but a few small surface craft, been obliterated. Anything Roth Harbard posts I would take with a grain of salt.

      Iran had four Frigates which were sunk, along with a boat-load (pun intended) of small attack vessels–which were mostly sunk… and all completely irrelevant FYI. What is relevant is the enormous stock pile of precision missiles which are still present (75% BTW). This is what is defeating the USA–as we have no way of countering them.

    about the MIC. back in 1978 I was part of a team testing the Carl Gustaf
    84 mm rocket launcher. it was hands down way better than anything we had. come “show day” there where 3 army generals and 2 Marine ones in the stands. the army guy didn’t even care enough to watch. the Marine guys, they got down and fired it in there “greens” asked a lot of questions and took notes on notepads (?) it had over a dozen different types of rounds. and was not that expensive . we never got it.
    we got the Dragon system instead. junk that cost 20 or more times what the carl G cost. in the 10 years after that I never found any Dragon “gunner” that fired a live round. after gulf one, it just was left behind as it didn’t work worth a damn I was told.
    so, image how I felt in 2004 watching CNN and seeing troops using the carl G and talking about how wonderful it is for the mission.
    yeah. the MIC. bought some USA made junk that didn’t work instead of a proven weapon system that was way cheaper to field and much more bang for our buck.
    and think that this is only one such POS that they pushed on us the taxpayer to support the troops. I betting this is only the tip of the mountain of bullshit we been sold.
