This will spur the perfection of directed energy weaponry as a countermeasure. The US always seemed to be late to the party in terms of reacting to military tactics but the US generally makes up for being tardy with technology. This tech already exists, now it will be perfected.
You can “direct” all the energy you want to–but these hypersonic warheads are completely impervious to such weapons…. because they come in at the target at hypersonic speeds–and thus are pushing a plasma mach-wave, which is impervious to all EM, lasers, radar, microwaves, etc. This is why they cannot be countered. To do so you need a counter-weapon that can move three times the speed of the incoming hypersonic warhead. But this is now impossible, due to the limitations in computing speeds and materials–so you’d have to have a interceptor that can move and maneuver at Mach 20 or more, but at that speed in thick atmosphere, they just burn up and melt. A directed energy weapon would work against slower moving targets–such as prop-drones, aircraft and the like.
